Project

In years 2022-2023 the Stanislaw Staszic Pomeranian Library in Szczecin implemented the project „Academic Heritage of Western Pomerania'' and „Academic Heritage of Western Pomerania in the 16th-19th century”, co-financed by the Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Social Responsibility of Science programme (Support for Research Libraries module) and with funds from the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The main goal of both projects was to create tools for multifaceted analysis of data contained in the historical registers of the Ducal Pedagodium, Royal Carolingian Gymnasium and Academic Gymnasium in Szczecin (Pomeranian Library in Szczecin, ref. Rkps 250/1-2). The contents of the manuscript was shared in the form of an electronic database, which enables browsing the document’s contents while taking into account various search criteria. It was also published in the form of a traditional book, provided with a synthesising introduction, critical apparatus and two types of indexes. In both forms, this edition has been complemented by data obtained from other document sources.

Thanks to the previously mentioned projects, information about the composition of the student body of Szczecin's oldest University and the Gymnasia that continued its tradition, can be accessed by people without the necessary manuscriptal and language skills. This was achieved through transcription and study of Latin-German documents by experienced manuscriptists at the Pomeranian Library in consultation with specialists from other scientific disciplines. The project was carried out by dr hab. Agnieszka Borysowska, Secretary of Science at the Pomeranian Library in Szczecin (project manager), and dr Michał Gierke from the Pomeranian Library's Manuscripts and Old Prints Department. Sebastian Galasiński (CyberWave) is responsible for the database and website design, English translation was carried out by Aleksandra Bryner and the graphic design was created by Dominika Odrowąż (Pomeranian Library).
